Holiday Inn Express - Recklinghausen

This new hotel is an excellent stop-off. It is well located, has easy underground car parking (€15 per day) and being new has excellent rooms and bathrooms. In the UK the Holiday Inn Express hotels are low-cost minimal facility hotels, but not this one. It’s a business hotel too. The rooms are not big but they are well designed and the beds are extremely comfortable. We were not disturbed at all, both the hotel and exterior were quiet all night. There is a kettle and tea/coffee provided, no milk but there’s a late-opening Aldi store just round the corner. Breakfast was a good cold selection with good coffee, lots of choice, cereals, breads, charcuterie, cheeses, boiled eggs and pancakes too, together with Bircher muesli, yoghurts and fruit. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English too. There’s a selection of restaurants nearby, within a hundred yards, we’d recommend “La Dolce Vita” as a very good Italian. For us this hotel provided a great staging post for a long journey and is only a few minutes off the A2 motorway. Petrol station en route to the hotel too cheaper than refuelling on the motorway.

Very friendly staff, very clean and modern hotel in a good location. This was our second stay here and we will definitely stay here again. Decent breakfast. Ability to check in until late and park in the basement is a big bonus.
